I end up drinking alone
semi finalist in UK
Songwriting competition 2005
I
went for a drink and I sat on a bar stool
I stared at the barmaid and tried to look so cool
I ordered a beer and one for the barmaid
It was then that she told me she had to work late
So I end up drinking alone
I
hit on a girl she was sat in the corner
She told me that her name was Lorna
I bought her a drink then I bought her another
She gave me a number but it was her mother
So I end up drinking alone
Standing
at the bar can be such a lonely place
Staring at the bottom of an empty glass
Wondering if she looked, or even noticed my face
Waiting for the evening to pass
I
left that bar, made my way to another
Who should I meet but sweet Lorna’s brother
He told me that Lorna’s a sweet and a bright thing
He warned me keep off if I know what’s the right thing
So I end up drinking alone
Standing
at the bar can be such a lonely place
Staring at the bottom of an empty glass
Wondering if she looked, or even noticed my face
Waiting for the evening to pass
So
it’s back in the night while the taxis are calling
I walk in the gutter, the rain keeps on pouring
I get to my bed and I pull back the covers
I’m dreaming of faces entwined with their lovers
While I end up sleeping alone
