Reclaim the Flag

I see the flag everywhere, but I don't know what it means anymore.

When I was young I saw the map of Empire

I heard of bold Knights and pioneers

They sailed to new lands across dark oceans

Converting the heathen of his fears

They taught that English was the right way

They taught the English God knew best

They stole the hearts of the people

And tied them to the English lion's breast

Chorus: And St George he sits with his head down in his hands

And he wonders what they have done to his land

They have captured his flag,

be it red and white,

Or be it red white and blue

And he’s ashamed to see it carried by the few

St Andrew gave the Saltire to the clansmen
St David heard the valleys as they sang

St Patrick graced the green fields of Erin

But St George’s flag was captured by the gang

And they’ve turned it into a symbol of hatred

Of pride in things he wouldn’t understand

Of keeping out the refugee and homeless

Of bloodshed in this green and pleasant land

Chorus

So why is it that when I see the banner

My heart just doesn’t feel the same

When it’s carried by a shaven British Bulldog

My pride is changed to sorrow and to shame

For it seems to me the flag has changed its meaning

For it seems to stand for prejudice and hate

Now it seems to be a sign of poison

Reclaim your flag before it is too late

Chorus

Final Chorus: And here I sit with my head down in my hands

And I wonder what have you done to my land

You have captured my flag,

be it red and white,

Or be it red white and blue

And I'm ashamed to see it carried by you
