Thank you for all the small things

written a long long time ago

I thank you for all the small things you do

The way you laugh, the way you smile

And I thank you that I know I can turn to you

And I can hold you for a while

I walk with you and talk with you,

In the cold night rain

Watching waves out at sea

Moving in to break again

Still turning with the tide

Moving in and out so free

But freedom makes them captive

In a tide of time

I need you to keep me on the line

If I ask you or you ask me,

what we want to be

I say I’m happy as I am

For if growing old means feeling cold

Then it’s not for me

I know I’d rather stay as I am

But if growing old, means growing old with you

That seems a better thing to do

I know that you know me in everything we do

And that I’ll tell you all

And I know that you know

Everything will be true

So I hope that we won’t fall

And when we’re sitting

alone at home one day

I’ll take out my guitar and play
